The United Way of Grant County’s volunteer Community Investment Committee has just completed a two-day tour of local agencies that have applied for community investment funding this year. The committee members were thoroughly impressed by the level of commitment and dedication shown by the different organizations in their efforts to improve the lives of community members.

According to United Way of Grant County Executive Director LeeAnna Smith, “The Community Investment Committee plays a critical role in ensuring that United Way’s funding decisions are grounded in a deep understanding of the needs of our community. The committee’s dedication to reviewing each application, conducting site visits, and engaging in thoughtful discussion has resulted in the funding of programs that make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors.”

Over the course of two days, the committee members had the opportunity to learn more about the services and programs the agencies provide. The agency presentations covered a wide range of community needs, including education, healthcare, housing, food assistance, and more.

The Community Investment Committee takes its responsibility very seriously when it comes to allocating resources in a way that maximizes their impact in the community. To ensure that the funding decisions are fair, transparent, and evidence-based, the committee uses a rigorous evaluation process that includes reviewing the agency’s application, assessing the agency’s impact and ability to deliver on its mission, and conducting a site visit (when possible) to see firsthand how the agency operates.

The allocation process is competitive, and not all agencies that apply for funding will receive support. However, the committee members are committed to making difficult decisions in a thoughtful and objective manner. They take into consideration the community need, impact, financial management, cooperation and capacity building, application and agreement, and equity and inclusion of the applying agencies.

The United Way of Grant County is grateful for the dedicated volunteers who serve on the Community Investment Committee and are committed to ensuring that the community investment funds are used effectively to address community needs. Their efforts will help to make a positive difference in the lives of the people who call Grant County home.
