On Friday, September 19, volunteers will fan out across Grant County for United Way’s Day of Action 2025, the county’s largest single-day volunteer event. From 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., teams of individuals, businesses, and organizations will roll up their sleeves to tackle dozens of projects that strengthen local nonprofits, schools, and neighborhoods.

But the day is about more than checking projects off a list. It’s about demonstrating what happens when a community decides to work together, side by side, to make life better for everyone.

“Day of Action is about more than volunteering. It’s about reminding ourselves that change starts with us — our time, our hands, our willingness to show up for one another,” said LeeAnna Smith, Executive Director of United Way of Grant County. “When people unite to serve, we don’t just build stronger organizations, we build stronger connections and a stronger county.”

The day begins with a community luncheon at 11:00 a.m. at the Gas City Performing Arts Center, open to all community leaders, businesses, organizations, and registered volunteers. The lunch will feature remarks from United Way, recognition of sponsors, and the kickoff of the 2025 United Way Campaign. United Way will also unveil an exciting announcement: the launch of a new county-wide volunteer website that will make it easier for individuals and groups to discover opportunities to give back all year long.

“This new platform will change the way our community connects with service,” said Kayla Johnson, United Way’s Impact Coordinator and lead organizer for Day of Action 2025. “For years we’ve heard from people who want to get involved but don’t always know where to start. Now, whether you’re one person, a family, or a business team, you’ll be able to see what’s needed and step in.”

Following the luncheon, volunteers will head into the community to serve. In past years, projects have included painting and repairs at nonprofits, landscaping at schools, assembling care kits, and deep-cleaning community centers.

Indiana Wesleyan University is serving as the Title Sponsor for Day of Action 2025, with additional sponsorship support from Central Indiana Ethanol, VIA Credit Union, The Affordable Housing Corporation, and others.

“At Indiana Wesleyan University, service isn’t just an activity; it’s part of our world-changing mission,” said Dr. Karen Dowling, Executive Vice President/Chief People & Culture Officer at IWU. “We’re proud to stand alongside United Way as the Title Sponsor because we believe in what this day represents. When students, employees, and community members give their time and serve, they’re investing in the future and the people of Grant County.”

The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 10. Nonprofits can still submit projects, businesses can rally teams, and individuals can sign up to volunteer at uwgrant.com/action.

“Every pair of hands makes a difference,” Smith added. “We don’t want anyone to miss out on this opportunity to be part of something bigger than themselves.”
