Emergency Food & Shelter Program

Local Administration of EFSP FUNDS

United Way of Grant County serves as the local administrator of the federal government’s Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). The national program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency. 

Phase 41 has been announced for Grant County. Applications will be accepted during the month of April, 2024. Nonprofit agencies providing food and shelter assistance in Grant County may apply. Please see the Public Notice below for details. 

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP) is a Federal program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA). It has been entrusted through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (PL 100-77) “to supplement and expand ongoing efforts to provide shelter, food, and supportive services” by local social service organizations for people across our Nation who are hungry, homeless, and in economic crisis. Phase 41 funds are available under the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act (Pub. L. No. 117-328).

Phase 41 – The Grant County Emergency Food and Shelter Board will award $23,918 to Grant County nonprofit agencies providing food and shelter assistance.

Applications are currently being accepted until April 28th. The federal funds were made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. 

Local organizations providing food or shelter assistance may receive funds if they: 1) are a nonprofit organization, 2) have an accounting system adequate to assure control of the funds, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver food and/or shelter programs, 5) are a private voluntary organization with a voluntary board, and 6) must have a Unique Entity Identifier to receive federal funding.

Qualifying agencies are urged to apply and may contact United Way of Grant County for more information. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 via electronic submission, using the “Apply for EFSP Funding” button above.
